???: Those things that were released. Those things. They’ve been destroying everything. Why would you want to do this to us? Is there a reason we’re the ones being targeted? Isn’t there any other way? No one is the same.
?????: No use in crying over spilled blood.
???: You disgust me.
October 12, 2087 - A small town in southern Ohio.
Breyden: Rebecca come over here.
Rebecca: Jesus, fine. I don’t understand why you have to have me so close to you guys.
Eric: It’s so that we don’t lose you, now keep quiet they’re coming.
Everyone in the group fell silent as the trio of masked-ones sprinted past the dark corner of the abandoned Wal-Mart the group was hiding in.
Breyden: For God sakes Rebecca they would have seen you.
Rebecca: Calm the hell down I can take care of myself, I don’t need you three here babysitting me just to stay alive anymore. If you haven’t noticed there are a lot less of “them” coming around.
Ave: Just shush it and follow us, kid, we don’t need you dying on us. Too much of a set-back.
Rebecca: I swear if you call me a kid one more time.
Rebecca grabbed an old blu-ray player off of a nearby shelf and held it up as if she were about to use it as a weapon.
Ave: ... Kid.
Rebecca swung the player and just narrowly missed Ave’s head as Eric shoved her back into the shelf making the entire thing fall onto the ground.
Breyden: Oh damn...
The staggering footsteps of the masked-ones that had passed the group earlier had now started becoming louder instead of quieter.
Breyden: Move it! They’re coming back!
Almost everyone started running in the opposite direction of the footsteps.
Ave: Great job, Kid, can’t believe you let that happen.
...
Ave: Kid?
Eric, Ave, and Breyden turned back to see Rebecca laying face-down on the ground, not two feet away from where the shelf fell over.
Breyden: REBECCA! GET UP!
Blood started to appear in a pool around Rebecca’s head. The smell of pure human blood in the air made the footsteps of the masked-ones much more quick toward the group.
Ave began running back to Rebecca’s lifeless body but was grabbed by both Eric and Breyden.
Eric: Ave, there’s nothing we can do. Rebecca would have wanted us to get out of here safely and that can’t happen if we go back to her. We have to hurry or they’ll catch up to us!
Ave: But it’s my fault! I can’t let her die like this!
Ave began sobbing, but turned around as she was instructed.
Breyden: Come on guys...
The now group of three ran in the opposite direction of their fallen friend as the trio of masked-ones stopped in the presence of the precious substance that would keep them from their own demise, pure blood.
